The gym is finally open again and it’s time to focus more on doing your legs. Especially getting in your squats. I lost a lot of size and strength in my lower body with the gyms being closed so now I want to get it back by hitting the squat rack at least 4 days a week. Squats are probably the most effective exercise that i have ever done. Not only do they make me feel stretch out and more limber, they also make me feel like I am 10 times stronger than before. My jeans fit better and I look healthier with thicker legs. Why do you think a lot of women do their squats? it transforms your body into a sexier and more flexible person.
Legs are the biggest muscle on your body so why not do them.
The great thing about doing your legs at the gym is that most of the guys are not doing them. Its easy to get big biceps but try getting big calves or hamstrings. Now that takes a lot of time and consistency. I admit doing your legs can sound boring at first but it really is a great rush when your doing them. After all it is half your body and your strongest muscle. So the blood flow and muscle movement you feel is very satisifying.The more you do your squats the more you will appreciate what they actually do for you..They will make you feel powerful and sexy all at the same time.
Safety is most important when squatting.
Stretching out before doing your legs and especially squats is very important in getting in a good workout. Because the squat requires a lot of energy and a full body movement, the stretch is necessary. I always start my squats with just the bar and no weights. This way you can get out any stiffness or sense any soreness that needs to be addressed. Always do your squats in a squat rack or smith machine. This way you will have the proper saftey supports just in case. When working out with a partner always keep aware of your partner just in case he needs help or a spot. Help him dont hinder him by leaving him alone or not paying attention. Squats can be very dangerous because you could injure your back and spine. I always stay behind my partner just in case he needs me.
Go slow and really focus on correct form.
Go slow when doing your squats. Dont move fast or jerk your body during the exercize. The movement is intended to be focused and done with a slow corrrect form for your safety. Even though weight belts are outdated, I still wear my belt with anything over 200 lbs. Keeping your back and spine tight is very important when going a little heavier than usual. You will be amazed of how fast your legs get stronger. This is why it is good to have a partber when doing your squats because you will be adding weight just out of pure strength that you are constantly gaining.
Create a solid base with the proper attire.
Wearing a good pair of shoes is also very important when doing your squats. The amount of stress and weight that you put on your feet requires good spacing and a solid base.Dont ever wear sandals or shoes that wont give you a good grip on the floor becuase your feet can slip or move in an unsafe manner. Also, wear some workout shorts or pamts that will let you feel comfortable. Working out in jeans is never a good idea becuase you feel constricted and uncomfortable especially doing full squats.
Make it a routine thing in your workouts to do more legs.
Get into a weekly pattern with your legs workouts. Make it a routine thing. I find that it gets easier to do them this way. I always tell my son it’s leg day today even if its not. It is just so important and beneficial to work out your lower body as an older man in his 50s. You can make yourself look 10 years younger just by hitting the squat rack a few days a week. The weight loss you will experience and the firmness in your legs and hips will be your big pay off. The next time you are ready to to hit the gym think about getting in your squats first. After a few weeks of being consistent and focusing more on your lower body than your upper, you will feel like a million bucks.
